Common Questions

No marketing fluff. Just the clinical realities of accent modification.

How long does it take to change an accent?

Anyone who promises you a new accent in 30 days is lying. Accent modification is muscle memory training.

Typically, it takes 1-3 months of weekly coaching (with daily mechanical drilling) to achieve the target accent in highly controlled, scripted environments. It takes 6-12 months to integrate the accent into spontaneous, high-stress conversation where cognitive load is high.

Do I really need a coach who knows my native language?

Yes. If your native language doesn't use voiced consonants at the end of words (like Mandarin), you will naturally drop them in English. A generic coach will just tell you to "say the end of the word." A coach who understands your L1 mapping will give you a mechanical drill to keep your vocal folds vibrating while closing the articulators.

Without understanding your starting point, a coach cannot build an efficient mechanical bridge to the target.

Is accent coaching just for actors?

No. Roughly 60% of our marketplace consists of corporate professionals (executives, physicians, software engineers) who want to reduce communication friction. They aren't trying to sound like a local; they are trying to master the prosody (rhythm and stress) of the target language so they don't have to repeat themselves in meetings.

Why don't AI tools work for this?

AI speech analyzers measure acoustics, not mechanics. An AI can tell you that you mispronounced the vowel in "cat." It cannot tell you that the reason you mispronounced it is because you are bracing the sides of your tongue against your upper molars. Until the physical posture is corrected, the acoustic output will remain flawed.

What happens in a typical session?

We mandate a strict pedagogical structure:

  • Warmup (10m): Mechanical stretching and isolating specific articulators (e.g., separating jaw movement from lip rounding).
  • Drill (20m): High-repetition practice of a specific phonetic shift using minimal pairs or nonsense syllables to bypass established muscle memory.
  • Application (20m): Reading a text or answering questions while attempting to maintain the new mechanical posture.
  • Prescription (10m): The coach prescribes specific mechanical drills to be executed daily before the next session.
