Marketplaces built on 5-star ratings and profile pictures fail for highly technical skills. You don't need a "popular" coach. You need a coach who knows exactly how to map the phonemes of your native language to your target accent. Here is how our matching logic works.

01

L1 to Target Mapping

The mechanical path from Spanish to General American is fundamentally different than the path from Mandarin to General American. Spanish speakers need to develop vowel length distinctions and reduce jaw tension. Mandarin speakers need to develop voiced consonant endings and manage tone/stress conflicts.

Our engine filters out coaches who lack explicit, verified experience training speakers from your specific L1 (first language). This guarantees that your coach isn't guessing at why you're struggling with a particular sound.

02

Contextual Pedagogy

An actor needs an accent that holds up under emotional duress. A corporate executive needs an accent that projects authority and clarity over a Zoom call. These require different pedagogies.

We match actors with MFA-trained dialect coaches who understand text analysis. We match professionals with speech-language pathologists (SLPs) and corporate communications experts who focus on prosody, volume, and clarity.

03

Verification, Not Reviews

Most students cannot accurately judge the technical proficiency of their coach—they only know if the coach was nice. We don't rely on student reviews for quality control.

Every coach on MatchAccent has passed a manual review of their credentials (MA/MFA in Voice, CCC-SLP, etc.) and a practical demonstration of phonetic diagnosis. Our acceptance rate is strictly capped to maintain the integrity of the marketplace.
